Find your SOMETHING GOOD today!

"Every day may not be good, but there is something good in every day." ~Anonymous

Even when I don't go looking for them, my 'something good' seems to find me.

I plan to document them in this blog.

I invite you to contribute your own 'something good' in the comments!

Find your something good today!

13 may 2011

  • Going for a leisurely walk along the Wisconsin River for lunch.
  • Taking macro pictures of all the textures I found: tree trunks, buds of leaves, manhole cover, flowers, mushrooms.
  • Planning a little photo safari each week, then a blog post about it, and maybe even a piece of jewelry inspired by it. What do you think of that?
  • Set up an account with Mail Chimp this week. Migrated my Wufoo form database over there, updated the form on my blog (need to add this to my website), created my first email newsletter campaign. Have wanted to do this for 3 years.
  • Created a 'simple truths sampler' club with membership in 3 months sections to appeal to my friends and clients who love my new pendants. Have my first two sales for 3 months each. Now I need to go and create!

  • Discovering that Brenda Schweder has my website in her favorite links. Wow!
  • Getting an email from my friend Kristin who supports me and is looking out for me.
  • Setting up my 'simple truths sampler' on my blog and finding a way to not only make tabs on my blog but also a way to add a 'buy now' button. Hope it works!

05 April 2011

  • It means so much to me when a blog friend reads what I have to say and then tells me that I have inspired them. Thank you, Miss Cristi!
  • Hearing from another blog friend who enjoys what I write so that I am a must stop on her blog reading. That humbles me to know that people are hanging on my words, and willing to wait for them when there are dry spells, and sticking through these epic posts that I write!
  • Finishing two custom orders. And it feels good. Now I need to see if the client agrees. (And she does! Woot!)
  • Learning that my tips and tricks on designing asymmetrical jewelry pieces was inspiring to others who will come back to read them when they design something new. I just thought that this was probably something no one would be interested in, but it turns out to be the most important part!
  • Started on painting the 60+ 'simple truths' pendants late last night. And discovered a totally hilarious comedian named Billy Gardell. My husband will love him!
  • Baseball is starting! My husband is the 7th grade boys baseball coach and we had the team meeting last night. It is good to see these faces and look forward to what looks like a stellar team. From now until the end of July, you know you can find me on a bleacher somewhere! Bought metal cleats for the first time for Rocket. This is serious baseball now.
  • Tiny Dancer asked me to help her take out her starter earrings as it has been more than 7 weeks. She wanted to put in the sweetest little daisy dangles... what a difference that makes! So grown up!

  • Opening my email from Kerry Bogert to find out that I won something! I believe it is one of her bangle bracelets and that makes me over the moon!
  • Finding some orders from Etsy today. I am so glad that people are enjoying my 'simple truths' pendants!
  • I went out the Facebook for the first time in over a week. I found that Kristy Carroll Abner was so gracious in posting one of her necklaces with my 'simple truths' pendant. There is nothing quite like the experience of seeing how your pendant 'grows up' in the capable hands of an artist you admire!
  • Seeing that from Kristy inspired me to create a flickr group devoted to sharing what people create with the 'simple truths'. I hope that it fills up with beautiful things!
  • Having an email from a friend I haven't heard from in a few weeks.
  • Being given some office furniture from my company that is no longer needed but is in great condition. It will make my studio so sweet! But that does mean that a huge cleaning is in order....
  • Sending off a huge box filled with beads, findings and magazines to my dear family friend Honey in Florida who is around 90 years young and has taken up beading as a hobby to keep her mind active and her fingers nimble, and to make a few bucks on the side. I am hoping she and Joe her husband who also beads with her can find something useful in what I sent. Always happy to help out a newbie beader, no matter the age! (I just hope I can still see the beads at that age!)

12 march 11

  • Learning that I won a giveaway through SoftFlex of some crystal components. And hearing about it through some emails from some sweet souls who wanted to congratulate me. Fun stuff!
  • Sitting next to Sandi Volpe in class. That girl is a riot and a ton of fun!
  • Having dinner with Tracy Statler who drove over to crash the party. So nice to finally meet her!
  • Getting over my fear of the flame and making some pretty awesome bezels. Still not finished but I am not going to rush the experience so that I can get them just right.
  • Knowing that this knowledge, after many years, many books, and many instructors has finally sunk in. I can see where I can go with this knowledge and it is pretty powerful.
  • Stephanie Lee is the most down-to-earth person. She is beautiful and giving and witty and fun. She has made me feel in one day that we have known each other forever. She is truly an inspiration to me.
  • The chocolate cupcake with vanilla frosting that Cindy Wimmer gave me last night made me feel a touch of home.

08 march 11

  • I found out that I won some earrings from Stephanie Haussler from the Bead Soup! Woot!
  • Got the nicest email from Jill saying that she loves my work because I am inspirational and cater to all sorts of tastes. That makes my heart grow one more size!
  • I think I struck a chord with others on my post about Not Good, But Great. Lots of us are feeling the sense of inadequacy and that the pace is too frantic. So glad I put that out there and that others can feel a sense of community that we share this, but that we also have much to celebrate and dance about!
  • I spent way too many hours on my floor last night going through bins of old costume jewelry. I get so much dropped off on my doorstep (literally! It is sometimes like a drive-by blinging!) and so much that I inherited and so much that I could never part with. I am going to make a pledge to use it or lose it. I already threw about half of it away.
  • In that stash I found some great beads to bring along to my class this weekend, and the most amazing Jerusalem silver maltese cross with a large faceted stone (amethyst?). I looked online and people are selling them for like $185! I am going to keep this one and maybe make it into a multi strand necklace just for me.
  • My online blog crush, Aidan Donnelly Rowley, author of the book I am reading right now called Life After Yes (I think that when I am done I will be giving away some books!), just wrote the sweetest post about her brand spankin' new baby girl that made my heart skip a beat. I remember those days but not with as much presence and clarity that she does. I will enjoy following this new journey she is on. I encourage you to read her blog. Beautiful words from a lovely soul.
  • My friend Jeannie called me her 'shero' today! That was so funny but it rocked my world!

  • Won a $25 gift certificate from during the Beads of Clay blog open house. I just commented because I was intrigued by what I was seeing but thought the event was over. Imagine my surprise! Now I get to collect from a new artist. Yea!
  • Hearing from my winners of Bead Soup giveaway. I am excited to make something special for each one of them.
  • I am sitting in the Gallery Q this afternoon working. I am inspired by the loveliness that surrounds me, particularly the new exhibit of prints by artist Ellie Honl. Brilliant!
